STEALTH ! Howling Profession Now-a-days:

Pakistan is a country, rich in art and culture but we have lack of opportunities and because of that our   local products do not get that standard on international market. Just because of this reason some stealer get the chance to steal our products and make it as their own like British menswear fashion designer Paul Smith who recently steals design of our traditional “Peshawari chappal” which we normally wear on wedding, on special occasions like Eid etc, he labeled it as his own brand and named it as Robert and set its sandal price £300, 20 times more than we get it in our country. However we can easily get them for 500 to 2500 rupees.

After this news was spread in our country many people showed their reactions in social media and this news got the hype. Everyone seems very aggressive and upset because Paul Smith did not give credit to the place where this sandal originated. We use branded things related to UK, France or America but we never label them like Karim’s glasses or Gulsher’s watch, similarly no one can bear the word Robert as well. On Monday, many people signed petition on change.org which was signed by more than 250 people demanding to mention courtesy and change the name from Robert to “Peshawari  Chappal”.

Meanwhile many celebrities also protested on this issue like

Fashion designer Nomi Ansari said:

The initial reaction was just WOW. I felt so proud but sadly realised that we’re the nation which doesn’t know its worth."
"What really made me upset is when I did not see the country, region or culture inspiration mentioned. Instead they’re calling it ‘Robert’ sandals. If they had been Indian sandals, that association would’ve been highlighted in capital letters. It’s not really stealing directly but yes one Pakistan/Peshawar mention would’ve been an answer to many questions being raised now."

Model and actress Nadia Hussain said:

“My initial reaction was ‘Bloody bas*****!’ In the ideal world perhaps there should’ve been a reference of inspiration but that’s where the sad part is — an international name being attached to something that’s so local and OURS. Now, all of a sudden, people want to go out and buy Peshwari chappals!
“Yes, it’s complete and utter stealing. I’d surely NEVER pay even £50 for this!

After facing the protestants on masses, the website Paulsmith.co.uk remove the name Robert but URL is still same and they added a description into it on Monday that:

“Men’s high-shine black leather sandals with neon pink trims inspired by the Peshawari chappal.”
