Glorious Past Of Pakistani Drama Industry

Recently a new trend of Dubbbing the foreign dramas and then telecasting them on our channels started.  Also  the standard  of the most of our locally produced content is awful.  So when comparing this terrible current Pakistani drama industry  with the industry  that once we used to have in past we got reminded of some of the very old and quality plays produced and telecasted in past Dramas  of that time were less glamorous and much realistic and based on social issues and the comedy shows were much ethical than today.  Starting off with Khuda ki basti  first produced in late 1960’s and then in in early 70’s  in this play  Behroz Sabzwaare made his first appearance on screen. That was a play written by Shaukat Siddique. And then in late 1980’s,Aangan Tehra was on aired which starred Bushra Ansari and Durdaana  Butt. That was a play written by Anwar Maqsood Saaheb.  Waris, a play written by Amjad Islam Amjad revolved around the feudal system of Pakistan and it starred Abid Ali and Jamil Fakhri.  Another drama ,Dhuwaan, which was the first action drama of PTV on aired in early 1990’s. while talking about the old dramas how can one forget Andhaira Ujala in which Irfan Khosat worked as a senior police officer and Qavi khan being his boss. That was the play not only with a quality comedy but also a play brought  a positive image of Police in our mind. And then  we saw our renowned actress Shugufta Ejaz working with Shafi Muhammad in a drama “Aanch”. That was a social play with a happy endings. One of my all time favourite play was an Alpha Bravo Charlie produced by ISPR. That was the play on aired in late 1990’s and I guess who ever watched that play, loved that play.  Among comedy plays there was a play, 50,50. That was the play with a typical comedy of Karachites of that time.  Another play Eid Train in which Durdana Butt also played a part was another quality play. A sitcom Guest House, starring  our very own Afzal Khan aka John Rambo was also a hit play on aired in 1990’s. Any way, the list of such quality content that once PTV was used to telecast goes on and on till the decline of our drama industry starts and our dramas lost the charm and reputation.  However one should not be so much pessimistic  regarding our low standards of Dramas because even today we get to watch a quality content like  Maira Naseeb, Kankar,Qaid e Tanhai etc  though rarely but enough to keep our hopes alive for the revival of our drama industry. But any how I personally intend to watch old Pakistani drama stuff as much as possible and also I will try to give a re watch to those plays which I have already watched because these are the plays that reminds us of our standards that we once had, of our ethics  and the culture of respecting our  elders that we once had.
